Personal information about Dr. Cecile (Cindy) Naylor
Born Cecile Edith Naylor in Springfield, PA, "Cindy" attended Springfield pubic schools. Her father was a 30 year FBI agent and then security supervisor at Bell Telephone while her mother was an active homemaker and Master Gardener, raising 3 children. Cindy left home at age 17 to attend college at Wake Forest University where she graduated in Psychology magna cum laude.
Swayed by the beauty of North Carolina and by the horses here, Cindy stayed at Wake Forest to pursue her Masters in Psychology and began working in the Section of Neuropsychology of the Department of Neurology at Wake Forest Medical School under Dr. Frank Balch Wood. Soon Dr. Naylor was completing her PhD at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she combined courses in physiological and clinical psychology to specialize in neuropsychology.
During this time, Dr. Naylor followed her other passions of horse training, riding, and playing volleyball, where she "bumped into" her future husband, Herman Schmid. They were married in 1989 at the Baptist Hospital chapel by none other than Dr. Frank Balch Wood, not only her mentor but also an ordained Baptist minister.
Dr. Naylor and her husband have proudly raised two young men, Austin and Eric. Austin completed a Masters in Physics Engineering at Appalachian State University and works in his profession of manufacturing process software development. Eric had graduated with a law degree from Boston College and works with a law firm in Boston. Both are embracing life-defining steps going forward with gusto.
Dr. Naylor and her husband are active in their fellowship/church and are involved in community building and social justice issues,
Dr. Naylor loves teaching dog training class as a member of the Winston-Salem Dog Training Club, In addition, she is a principle trainer with PAWA in the New Lease on Life program, which trains prisoners to train rescued dogs that eventually go to loving homes.
After 35 years at Wake Forest Medical Center, Dr. Naylor retired and started a private practice in 2012. Her clinical and legal practice is called Triad Neuropsychological Services, PLLC, where she works with the assistance of her husband, Herman Schmid
Dr. Naylor works on clinical and legal work throughout the eastern US and continues collaboration with her mentor, Dr. Frank Balch Wood.
